THE SPEECH OF PRESIDENT GAMAL ABDEL NASSER IN THE GRADUATION CEREMONY OF A NEW GROUP OF AVIATION OFFICERS 11/12/1958

The speech of President Gamal Abdel Nasser in the graduation ceremony of a new group of Aviation officers 11/12/1958

Today I am pleased to attend the graduation ceremony of a new group of Aviation College, this means that our air forces increase and strengthen over time. These forces which performed their duty in most difficult times, and worst crisis, Which they always give idealistic examples in maintaining Covenant and maintaining homeland.

Today, I remember among men of aviation, how they performed their duty when they were attacked by the enemies of our country; and how our Air Forces came out to fight Israel who was supported by the French air forces; and How the Arab Air Forces could gain air dominance In the battle of October 29, October 30 and October 31 the year 56. The battle did not include Israel alone, but it included Israel and also France which had not announced that it had participated in the battle.

I also remember how the men of aviation could, on October 30 the year 56, by three Arab airplanes, collapse three Israeli airplanes out of eight attacked the airport on that day; and how three Arab airplanes had been attacked by eight Israeli airplanes, and how Arabic airplanes could triumph over Israel; and how Israel flew escaping on that day. This is a page of glory and this is a page of pride exhibited by the Air Forces in the difficult days of the battle with high spirit; and moral forces were extraordinary and astonishing.

I also remember how the Air Force confronted the aggression in which involved the UK in early November, and how the Air Force stood up to defy the air forces of Britain, France and Israel, without weakness; and they did not hesitate for a moment to perform their duty. Today, I feel we are more stronger and more determined, and that goals which we were all the time striving to get,  they have been achieved for we always adhere to ideals, principles, and honor, in order to defend the honor of our country and in order to maintain the dignity of our country.

Nations do not rise by large or small, but nations rise by determination of their sons, their strength, and their strong patience. The Arabs have insisted to achieve for themselves and their country true freedom and true independence. they have decided to build for their country to defend it a real military force; so they can protect this country from the greedy ambitions of aggression and aggressors.

By maintaining principles and maintaining ideals, we will be able to succeed continuously. We will be able to move from victory to victory. We have spent the past years fighting battles, and we entered a long and continuous battles, but we’ve won in all these battles; because we believed in our country, we believed in ideals, We believe in principles. We entered battles; battles to get arms ; and we all remember that days we could not get any plane, but we could achieve victory, And today we see evidently the planes fill the sky by which we feel that we have achieved our precious goal because we have our adherence to principles and ideals.

We could put an end to monopoly of arms, and we got what we need from arms; we also made our own arms because we determined and we knew our way, and we were able to achieve our goal. We also entered multiple battles in other fields; battles in the field of economic. When we know our way, adhering  to ideals and principles, we could win the economic battles which waged by major countries and the Great Powers; these countries wanted to control us. When we wanted to achieve goals that we agreed to, we were able to achieve these goals. We overcame aggression and kept our country; Thus, we were also able to win when we stuck to our ideals and principles. the Northern Territory – Syria – met the same pressure and the same conditions, but we were also able to win because we had our adherence to the principles and ideals.

Today, we are the children of the United Arab Republic insist on our goals, we determined also to adhere to the principles and ideals; because they were the way we could win. This will lead us to achieve the goals that we committed great home that we will achieve. I ask God to grant you success; and god may reconcile the Republic, and Arabs everywhere.

Peace be upon you and the mercy of God.

THE SPEECH OF PRESIDENT GAMAL ABDEL NASSER DURING THE OPENING SESSION OF THE GENERAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE ARAB SOCIALIST UNION 29.03.1969

The speech of President Gamal Abdel Nasser during the opening session of the General National Conference of the Arab Socialist Union 29.03.1969

Dear Friends:

It is Great pleasure for me to have this opportunity to meet these elite scientists and intellectuals who gather in this place from Cairo for the hospitality of millennium anniversary of this glorious capital by this international symposium of its history.

In fact – dear friends – and I think that some of it has arrived to your information, the celebration of the Millennium anniversary of Cairo is surrounded by multiple conflicting ideas; there is an opinion says that Cairo is ancient of these thousand years, which is celebrated by today, and these thousand years is really the beginning of an era in the history of Cairo, it is a prominent and clear era, but it is not the beginning, but the start was preceded by much, to some extent, this is true. There is another opinion may take from the conditions experienced by our country now and the whole Arab nation a tendency to delay. Regardless of a thousand years or account for thousands of years, finally, it has been the decision, we all agreed , Is that the thousand years to celebrate the history of Cairo must go as planned; especially planned way by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, this way is enlightened and serious; and there is no evidence clearer than this symposium which allowed us a great opportunity to meet you all.

I admit in front of you – my friends – that I voted for continuing the millennium anniversary of Cairo when this subject was discussed,  I released from the feeling that you may allow me to show you; my concern was not the expense of a thousand years or thousands of years, my opinion is in any case the honor for all is a tribute to the part as the honor for part is a tribute to all. Above all,  I have found that circumstances experienced by our country now and the Arab nation, All are not prohibitive from celebrating the Millennium anniversary of Cairo, but it perhaps establish a motive in this celebration to rejoice in it later.

My feeling was that peoples and nations are in utmost need in times of crisis to be proud of outstanding eras, recalling their heroes and men through history. Nations in times of crisis feel security as searching in their history, and find additional reasons annexed to their capabilities in the face of what surround them of risks; so that they have psychological and spiritual tranquility, calling that They are able to present as were in the past, and they faced injustice and kept it away by right, they faced darkness and changed it into the flame of civilization which is exposed to the rough wind much, but the flame was not extinguished nor drained of oil through ages. Our people are worthy to this tranquility that history can give it to the contemporary life. While our people look back, they feel rightly  and honestly that they are capable of passing and Skipping; they are also capable of testing and challenge; they accomplished countless achievements  through their history, and they gave and made a lot. What they achieved was not limited nor cheap, but on the contrary; this people was the beginning of the first civilizations; and the world of human civilization also testifies to this entire Arab nation for its offered contribution which is potential. The whole long history which is full of events trivializes casual crises created by greediness which perceived itself unbreakable, while the long history confirms that they are quite helpless and imposed by blind forces. While the long history indicates that faith was responsible for the upper floor, besides that progress cannot be intercepted, for The movement of people is always a movement to progress forward, and this is an experience of historical lessons cannot be wasted and forgotten by powerful forces nor pretended power, accompanied by antagonism with the principles and hostility.

Dear friends:

On top of that, your meeting here may be a valuable contribution to the one of the most important issues facing our people now, Perhaps it is facing the other peoples living in the suffering of development and address their big and urgent issues. Right Development is the correct extension to history and not break it up, indeed, Revolution, the fastest degrees of evolution, is only in its fact an intense attempt to catch up with the movement of history and harmony with it, walking towards progress. But there are big questions facing us and others:

How can our people live in the age of space at the same time retain its roots inside its national territory?

How can our people bring together authenticity, which is history, and innovation, which is the future?

How can our people live in the era of globalization, in which borders and distances are faded at the same time not waste their identity and qualities?

How can our people be released into horizons of modern technology and at the same time not trample on the glorious heritage?

Those are all big questions need vital answers, but –dear friends- we waited for your meeting to listen not to speak. I have no doubt for a moment that many of people who are happy with your hospitality, also, many people in this struggling Arab nation, but I’d say that many people in many other nations ,are waiting for this meeting in intellectual attentiveness has no equivalence. Now, begin with god’ blessing.

Peace be upon you and God’s mercy and blessings.
